Travel notification for extended or international travel
You can notify us in advance online. Log in to Member Connect to fill out a travel notice form in the Services section. Select the credit card or debit card you plan to use while traveling, along with basic details about your trip.
Before you go
- If you haven’t already, Enroll in Member Connect so you can send encrypted messages if needed.
- Test your card at a store or ATM to make sure it’s working properly.
- Order foreign currency at your local branch if you need it.
- Make copies of the front and back of any cards you’ll be carrying.
Countries with limited card access
Remember to contact us when you plan to travel internationally. This will allow us to give you up-to-date information for your intended destination, and exclude your card from certain fraud protection strategies that may impact your trip.
Transactions in certain countries may also be limited by the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). In these instances, the Credit Union will not be able to remove card restrictions.
For example, your ability to use your cards in Cuba remains extremely limited due to the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba, as well as the developing payment landscape in that country. It is important to note that your cards of any brand will not likely be accepted or function in this area, and the Credit Union will not be able to bypass any restrictions to allow your card transactions.
While you’re away
- Stuff happens. Bring a backup way to pay — cash or an extra credit card.
- Keep your cards and your cash in separate locations.
- Pickpocketing is still a common crime. Be aware of your surroundings even while enjoying the sites.
- Use a reputable company if you’re using your credit card or debit card to rent a car internationally.
Stay alert at ATMs
Be aware of your surroundings when you’re at an ATM, including noticing if someone is standing too close.
Also be on the lookout for skimming devices that can record your card information for use by criminals. If the machine looks tampered with or if the card reader doesn’t match the rest of the machine, go to another ATM.
Always stay in well-lit areas. If you’re feeling uncomfortable, stop the transaction and go to another ATM.
