In partnership with Civic Local Foundation, LGFCU awards one-year college scholarships to students who are members of LGFCU or Civic Federal Credit Union. Beginning with this upcoming scholarship year, only graduating high school seniors will be eligible for the scholarship. All scholarships are for $5,000, payable in one installment to the school, and may be applied to tuition, textbooks, computers and other fees.

Application requirements

Applicants must be members of LGFCU with an individual Share Account or joint Share Account with a parent or guardian. UTMA Accounts do not qualify as membership accounts. Applicants also must:

  • Have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Be a graduating high school senior
  • Submit official school transcripts
  • Include two references as indicated on the application

Scholarship selection process

The LGFCU Scholarship Committee selects the recipients, who are notified in April.

Other financing methods

Check out the Coverdell Education Savings Account as another way to cover the costs of higher education. Start saving early to take advantage of the tax benefits of this deposit account.

There are many college scholarship websites and the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) is one that’s a good resource for information on many college-related topics such as financial aid, grants and scholarships. As a federally chartered credit union, LGFCU cannot participate in CFNC programs.
