Board Member, Willie Best

It is with heavy hearts that we share with you the passing of Willie Best, who was a long-time volunteer for his Credit Unions. He served as the founding Chair of the Civic Federal Credit Union Board of Directors, and as a Director on the Board since Civic’s inception in 2019. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Local Government Federal Credit Union from 1993 to 2019, serving on various committees and in several officer positions. Prior to his position on the Board, he served his fellow members on the Loan Review Committee, allowing members a second-chance review of loan applications.

Throughout his career, Mr. Best was a passionately dedicated servant-leader. He steadfastly and ardently advocated for providing financial resources to all people, no matter their financial status. He never compromised on his commitment to local government employees and their families to have access to affordable financial services.

Mr. Best also worked as a local government leader in communities across North Carolina, including Wilson, Robeson, Guilford and Orange counties, and as a Town Councilman in Garysburg.

We will miss his heartfelt devotion and service to our Credit Union members and his fellow North Carolinians.

We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Willie Best and to all who were touched by him. Please join us in extending thoughts and prayers.
