In partnership with Civic Local Foundation, LGFCU awards one-year college scholarships annually for graduating high school seniors and students attending colleges, universities and trade schools. All scholarships are for $5,000, payable in one installment to the school, and may be applied to tuition, textbooks, computers and other fees.
Application requirements
Applicants must be members of LGFCU with an individual Share Account or joint Share Account with a parent or guardian. UTMA Accounts do not qualify as membership accounts. Applicants also must:
- Have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher
- Be a full-time undergraduate or trade school student
- Submit official school transcripts
- Include two references as indicated on the application
Scholarship selection process
The LGFCU Scholarship Committee selects the recipients, who are notified in April.

There are many college scholarship websites and the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) is one that’s a good resource for information on many college-related topics such as financial aid, grants and scholarships. As a federally chartered credit union, LGFCU cannot participate in CFNC programs.
