Dayatra Matthews, LGFCU Senior Vice President of Legal & Compliance, was elected 40th president of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys recently.

“I’m honored by my peers’ vote of confidence at the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys,” said Matthews. “The NCADA is dedicated to bringing together civil defense attorneys to support the administration of justice, exchange ideas, improve skills and strengthen our profession. It’s my privilege to serve as the president of this important and worthwhile organization.”

At LGFCU, Matthews oversees all legal, compliance and risk functions. She also provides legal and regulatory guidance to executive management, the Board of directors, and the Credit Union’s various committees.

In 2016, Matthews was recognized by the Triangle Business Journal when she received the Outstanding Corporate Counsel award. In 2014, Matthews was named to the corporate counsel class of “Legal Elites” by Business North Carolina magazine — a recognition voted upon by her industry peers.  She was recently selected to serve on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Credit Union Advisory Committee.

Matthews previously served as a board member of the Wake County Bar Association and is former chair of its Leadership Development Committee. She is a member of the Minorities in the Profession Committee of the N.C. Bar Association, and past president of the Capital City Lawyer’s Association. She is also a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for EarthShare North Carolina.
