The Triangle Business Journal (TBJ) recently presented Dayatra Matthews, Senior Vice President, Legal and Compliance at Local Government Federal Credit Union, with the Outstanding Corporate Counsel award.
“I am honored to have been selected for an award of this caliber. I am especially honored to receive it as a member of the LGFCU team and among a group of my peers whom I consider to be some of the best lawyers and thought-leaders in the Triangle. This is truly one of the highlights of my career,” Matthews said.
Matthews’ professional accomplishments and dedication to the community were among the qualities the nominating committee looked for in candidates.
At LGFCU, Matthews oversees all legal, compliance and risk functions. She provides legal and regulatory guidance and direction to executive management and the Board and its various committees on credit union policies and business objectives.
In 2014, Matthews was named to the corporate counsel class of “Legal Elites” by Business North Carolina magazine — a recognition voted upon by her industry peers. She was recently selected to serve on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Credit Union Advisory Committee.
She serves as President-Elect of the N.C. Association of Defense Attorneys, Board member of the Wake County Bar Association and former Chair of its Leadership Development Committee. Matthews is a member of the Minorities in the Profession Committee of the N.C. Bar Association, and Past President of the Capital City Lawyer’s Association. She is also a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for EarthShare North Carolina.
