Credit Unions: Dreams thrive here

October 16, 2017

First home. New car. College degree.

No matter what you dream of for yourself or family, your credit union has always been here to help our members achieve their dreams and improve their lives.

That’s why LGFCU joins the credit union world to celebrate International Credit Union Day® (ICU). This year we’re celebrating for an entire week from, October 19 to October 25. This year’s theme, "Dreams thrive here," is a reminder that credit unions are not like big banks. Like all credit unions around the world, our priority is helping members’ dreams come true. This week is dedicated to showing members how credit unions and other financial cooperatives help make a variety of personal and professional dreams become reality.

“As a cooperative, all of our financial services are locally-grown. When you use LGFCU, it’s about families helping families live better financial lives. When we see how others have improved their lives, we learn how to apply the lessons to ourselves,” said Maurice Smith, LGFCU’s Chief Executive Officer.

The credit union difference

Each member of the credit union helps other members achieve their dreams just by being a part of the cooperative. Members turn to us for help with buying a car to get to work every day. Some need help with purchasing their first house so their children have a place to call home. And others come to LGFCU to get the money they need to pay for their child’s college education. Maybe funding a dream wedding or a fun vacation is a member’s goal. Your credit union is here for it all and so much more.

“By placing people before profit, we defend the credit union and cooperative financial institution model worldwide,” said Brian Branch, World Council of Credit Unions’ President and CEO.

It always comes back to you

Credit Unions have recognized International Credit Union Day on the third Thursday of October since 1948 to raise awareness about the credit union difference and celebrate the spirit of the global credit union movement. On that day, we reflect upon the credit union movement's history and promote its achievements.

We also want to celebrate our member’s achievements! We invite you to share your experiences and celebrate how credit unions and financial cooperatives have made a positive impact on your life.

Has LGFCU made your dreams come true? What are your dreams for the future? Share your dreams with us on Facebook or Twitter and experience what your fellow members are dreaming about.
