A foundation for financial goals

Some simple steps to saving

Managing and saving money are things that can be discussed and taught for an eternity. Here are a few things to get you thinking about your finances—and yes, that is a good thing!

  • Picture what it would be like to be completely debt-free.
  • An "Emergency Fund" should be the first place you save money.
  • Educate yourself on the basics of budgeting, insurance, and investing. LGFCU offers complimentary financial services for local government employees and credit union members.
  • Don't become negative due to past financial choices. Get past it and work to improve the situation.
  • Develop a family system for handling money with everyone cooperating.
  • Keep accurate records. Make yourself do it.
  • Pay your credit card off every month if at all possible.
  • Pay cash whenever you can.
  • Try to hold only one credit card.
  • Talk to someone who has successfully saved or invested his or her own money.
  • Check your addition.
  • If you are in debt, get help from a reputable source. Your Credit Union can provide resources.

Now, just do a couple of these things and youll have a good start
